Define Material Types
Material Types is a method of classifying various materials based on their similarities, such as raw materials, semi-finished goods, finished products, and so on. Users must create a material type and assign that material type to a set of materials when creating a Material Master Record.

Steps to create New Material Type in Sap MM
Transaction code (T.Code) : OMS2
Navigation Path : SPRO-->Sap Reference IMG-->Logistics General-->Material Master-->Basic Settings-->Material Types-->Define Attributes of Material Type.
Step 1 : Enter SPRO in the SAP commend area as shown below.
Click on SAP Reference IMG
Step 2 : Expand Logistics General--> Expand Material Master-->Expand Basic Settings-->Expand Material Types-->Click on Define Attributes of Material Type
Step 3 : To maintain new material types in SAP, select an existing required material type and click the copy as option. ROH was chosen as the material type in our scenario.
Click on position and choose material type
Step 4 : Select Material and Click on Copy As
Step 5 : In our scenario renamed material type ROH as LU7 , click on enter and save.
Step 6 : Now select created material and double click on Quantity/Value Updating.
Step 7 : Click on position and enter valuation area LU1
Valuation area is nothing but plant.
Step 8 : Now check mark on Quantity updating and Value Updating. Follow below images
Click on save.
Successfully created new material type :)
